Fri Martin: ‘A paradigm case of coercive control' - public meeting

On 16th & 17th December, Farieissia's new legal team will argue that had the court at her original trial heard evidence of the extent of the abuse Farrell had subjected her to and its impact on her mental health, Fariessia should have instead been found guilty of the lesser offence of manslaughter.

Farieissia (Fri), who was 22 at the time of conviction and mother to two children under 3 years old, killed Kyle with a single stab wound in 2015 as he attacked her in their Liverpool home. There was a failure by Fareissia’s (all male) legal team at trial to explore the extent of the abuse she suffered and its impact on her mental health. The court of appeal will hear fresh evidence from four experts instructed by both defence and prosecution, which unusually all agree that Fri was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at the time of Farrell’s death, as a consequence of the physical, sexual and emotional abuse she had been subjected to during their five-year relationship. The evidence assists with two partial defences to murder, loss of control and diminished responsibility.

Please join us for this free event as we speak with Farieissia's family and legal team about her case and the wider implications for other survivors.
